Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum

Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum

The exhibits and programs of the Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum communicate the history of Bisbee and its environs as a premier copper mining center in southeastern Arizona. In contrast to the public's conception of most western mining towns, Bisbee was a genuine urban center set in the otherwise wild west of territorial Arizona' with a commercial district built of brick and stone, paved streets, a trolley line leading to the suburbs, and rail connections to the rest of the nation. Today's Bisbee, a nationally registered landmark, preserves this architectural heritage. The Museum's collections focus on Bisbee's local history beginning in 1877 and are complemented by on-site research library collections specializing in early 20th-century mining, community history and genealogy. Highlighting the collection are approximately 25,000 historic images of Bisbee and southeastern Arizona from the 1880s through the 1940s. Bisbee minerals have gained worldwide fame for their magnificence and diversity. Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum is working with the Smithsonian Institution to create a first-class, mining and mineral hall.
