(1968) - B-movie queen. Rochon started out as a New York stage actress, but she's now a cult movie heroine. - John Montague
(1718) - He was the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, and came up with the idea of the sandwich as a time-saver during his all-night gambling sessions. According to legend, the Earl created the sandwich as a way to fill his tummy without getting his cards greasy. These days, the sandwich is popular the world over but the Earl who created it is relatively obscure -- except in places like Sandwich, Massachusetts, which was named after the entree-inventing Earl.
- Charles Bronson
(1921) - The actor died August 3, 2003, of pneumonia. One of his first roles was as a wax dummy in 1953's House of Wax. In 1998 a wooden "fertility god" totem pole owned by Bronson was auctioned off to benefit a Hollywood charity. Other flicks: Murphy's Law (1986), The Evil That Men Do (1983), Death Wish movies, The Dirty Dozen (1967), The Magnificent Seven (1960).

(1933) - Actor best known for his role as Sam Jones in Mayberry R.F.D. Also: Mama's Family and F Troop.
- Lulu
(1948) - Scottish singer and actress. She was born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie. Lulu's "To Sir With Love" was a No. 1 hit in 1967. From 1969 to 1973 she was married to Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees.

(1948) - TV critic.

(1949) - In 1984 Holmes won the first world heavyweight boxing match under the auspices of the International Boxing Federation.
- Mike Evans
(1949) - One of two actors who played George Jefferson's son, Lionel, on The Jeffersons. The other actor was Damon Evans (no relation).
- Roseanne
(1952) - Born Roseanne Barr. She's been married and divorced three times. The naked truth about Roseanne is most folks don't want to see her naked under any circumstances. A 2000 survey by TV Guide Online reports that 90 percent of Americans wouldn't want to see Roseanne nude unless they were "...about to enter the priesthood and needed an incentive." In 1998 Roseanne was all set to buy a $6 million Bel Air mansion -- until she found out it was haunted by "friendly spirits." As soon as Roseanne heard that, she rushed out of the mansion, called her realtor and canceled the purchase. In 1990 an off-key Roseanne tried to sing the National Anthem at a San Diego Padres baseball game. Fans booed as Roseanne scratched herself, spit and walked off the field. Other Roseanne trivia: She always asks for foot massages whenever she stays in hotels. Roseanne commissioned a wedding gown made out of leather for her marriage to Ben Thomas. A 1996 kissing survey by Scope mouthwash found Roseanne to be "The Least Kissable Woman On TV." When it comes to raising children, Roseanne once said, "Hey, the way I figure it, if the kids are still alive by the time my husband comes home, I've done a good job."

- Kate Capshaw
(1953) - The actress is the wife of Steven Spielberg. Capshaw says she decided to marry Spielberg because his scent reminded her of her own family.
- Dennis Miller
(1953) - Comedian. Saturday Night Live (1985-90). In 2000, when Miller gave his highbrow brand of commentary on Monday Night Football broadcasts it didn't translate with some fans so Britannica.com put a weekly column on their website to explain his obscure references. - Adam Ant
(1954) - Musician. His real name is Stuart Leslie Goddard. Adam, who says he's a confirmed bachelor, lived in Los Angeles until 1996. He moved back to London after an arsonist set fire to his next door neighbor's house. Adam Ant hits: "Goody Two Shoes" (1982) "Friend or Foe" (1982)
- Ariana
(1958) - Former X-rated film actress. Chug-a-Lug Girls 4 (1994), The Maltese Bimbo (1993), Steady As She Blows (1993), Herman's Other Head (1992).
- Dolph Lundgren
(1959) - The actor was born in Stockholm and played Drago the Russian boxer in Rocky IV. His real first name is Hans. He may look like the typical dumb blonde beefcake, but Lundgren attended the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and received a Master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney in Australia. He once worked as a bodyguard for Grace Jones. Born on Nov. 3 not Oct. 17. (1948) - A day earlier, on November 2nd, presidential candidate Harry Truman won the election over heavily favored Thomas Dewey -- but the Chicago Tribune was a bit confused: On this day it released an edition with the banner headline DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN. Copies of the original paper are worth more than $1,200.
(1954) - The sci-fi thriller Godzilla opened in Japanese movie theaters. The film premiered in the U.S. two years later.
(1957) - The Russians sent the first animal into space: a dog named "Laika" who rode aboard Sputnik 2. The U.S. press nicknamed her "Muttnick."
(1988) - Geraldo Rivera's nose was broken during the taping of a show featuring neo-Nazi skinheads.
(1992) - Bill Clinton won the 1992 presidential election with 43 percent of the popular vote -- the lowest percentage of popular vote since Richard Nixon's election in 1968.
