New York, NY, United States (4E) - One of Hollywood's most prized screenwriters and filmmakers, Nora Ephron, 71, passed away Tuesday night at the New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center due to pneumonia.

Her death was caused by complications due to her acute myeloid leukemia, according to her son, Jacob Bernstein.

Known for being a 'Hollywood matchmaker,' she was the brains behind the box office hits "When Harry Met Sally" and "Sleepless in Seattle." Her more recent hits included "You've Got Mail" and "Julie & Julia."

Ephron cames from a family of writers. She grew up in California and started her career as a reporter for the New York Post, and also wrote essays for various US publications. She was married three times and has two sons.

Truly, Hollywood mourns the passing of yet another gem in the entertainment industry. Thousands of sentiments about the Oscar-winning writer/director have been posted on Twitter following the news of her demise.

Actor Jonah Hill tweeted, "Nora Ephron's writing and directing is so remarkably honest, touching and funny. My heart goes out to her friends and family today."

Meanwhile, actress Zooey Deschanel tweeted, "I'm very sad about Nora Ephron, a hero for all funny ladies."

Comedian Steve Martin said of his late friend, "She was the one you wanted to read, to listen to, to be in the company of. Nora Ephron. Incomparable wit; delightful friend. Sadness reigns."
