Heavy metal musician Rob Zombie to produce Flyers flick

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA (AHN Sports) -- Heavy metal musician and film director Rob Zombie will produce and direct a movie about the legendary Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup-winning teams in the 1970s, multiple sources reported Wednesday.

Zombie, who's famous for directing horror films, will be doing a film based on the tough Flyers team that ruled the NHL in the 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons. The film will be entitled Broad Street Bullies - the nickname of the gritty and successful Flyers team.

"Each character involved is more outrageous than the next," Zombie told deadline.com Wednesday. "The backdrop of the turbulent year of 1974 is perfect for this 'stranger than fiction' sports tale."

Consists of Hall of Famers Bill Barber, Bernie Parent, Dave Schultz, and Bobby Clarke, the Broad Street Bullies became successful for their gritty plays that allowed them to dominate every opponent.

Zombie recently acquired the copyrights to produce the film and has received full support from the Flyers organization.

"The great Rob Zombie making a drama feature film about the Broad Street Bullies is exciting and thrilling for all of us. I look forward to seeing it, said Clarke, who now serves as the Flyers senior vice president.
