Janet Jackson not judging 'X Factor'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (AHN) -- Janet Jackson has passed on the opportunity to join the "X Factor" as a judge.

The singer and actress had been rumored to be in line for a judging slot on Simon Cowell's show after he cleaned house following a disappointing last season, dumping former judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

Jackson, 45, said in a statement that she "was very flattered that 'X Factor' let me know that I was being considered for next season, but it just wouldn't be possible."

Jackson had to decline the position because of her other work commitments, including her Tyler Perry film and Number Ones tour.

Jackson's polite decline leaves two slots still open. Cowell has indicated that he might be interested in tapping Britney Spears as an "X Factor" judge.

Cowell told Access Hollywood this week, "This girl has got resilience. I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, "X Factor" would be a walk in the park."
