Catherine Middleton's wedding dress on display at Buckingham Palace
-- Damian Grass - Celebrity News Service Reporter
London, England, United Kingdom (Celebrity News Service) - The Irish lace wedding dress Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, wore during her wedding to Prince William _ and seen around the world _ is on display at Buckingham Palace.
Thousands of people lined up Saturday to take a look at the gown, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, and other mementos from her wedding in April, reports Entertainment Tonight.
More than half a million people are expected to travel to London to see the Royal Wedding Exhibition, which will run for eight weeks.
During a private tour with her new granddaughter-in-law on Friday, Queen Elizabeth II was heard to say it was "creepy" to see the dress.
Perhaps it's because the gown stands alone in the center of the ballroom at Buckingham Palace, with the tiara and veil suspended above it.
A reporter for Britain's Press Association news agency reported that the monarch described the atmosphere "to look very creepy," while the duchess responded that it had a "3D effect."
The vintage 1936 Cartier tiara, which was borrowed by the Queen, contains over 900 diamonds.
Her shoes and acorn earrings, given to the duchess by her parents, will also be shown.
Part of the couple's wedding cake will also be on display. The top three tiers were removed, with some of it being served and the rest kept by the duke and duchess, as a tradition.
In one of the most anticipated weddings since Princess Diana's wedding to Prince Charles in 1981, an estimated two billion viewers worldwide tuned in to see the modern royal couple marry at Westminster Abby.
The Royal Wedding Exhibition will end on Oct. 3.
