-- Damian Grass - Celebrity News Service Reporter San Diego, CA, United States (Celebrity News Service) - British actor Rhys Ifans, who takes on the role of Dr. Curt Connors and his evil alter-ego The Lizard in the upcoming film, "The Amazing Spider-Man," has been arrested. The 44-year-old actor, who is best known as Hugh Grant's grubby roommate in the popular film, "Notting Hill," was issued a misdemeanor battery citation in San Diego on Friday, reports Entertainment Weekly. Ifans was scheduled to promote the film at the pop culture Comic-Con, an annual event that attracts science-fiction fans and comic book lovers. The actor allegedly shoved a female security guard after a member of his entourage was denied entrance into the venue without the proper credentials.. "He was abusive, belligerent and aggressive, and shoved a female security guard," San Diego police spokeswoman Lt. Andra Brown said in a statement Saturday. A rep for Sony, the studio behind the film, told EW in a statement: "Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the Amazing Spider-Man panel. Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets this incident." "The Amazing Spider-Man," which also stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, is scheduled to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.
