'General Hospital' leads Daytime Emmy nods list
NEW YORK CITY, NY (AHN Entertainment) -- Nominees for the 38th Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced, with long-running soap "General Hospital" leading the pack with 21 nods. "The Young and the Restless" and the children's program "Sesame Street" follow with 20 and 16 nominations respectively.
"General Hospital" is up for Outstanding Drama Series along with "The Young and the Restless," "All My Children," and "The Bold and the Beautiful." Laura Wright and Maurice Benard also gathered nods for Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series.
"Sesame Street" stars dominated the category Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series. Kevin Clash as Elmo, Carroll Spinney as Oscar the Grouch, Leslie Carrara-Rudolph as Abby Cadabby, and Eric Jacobson as Grover and Iron Monster are all up for the category.
"Live with Regis and Kelly" hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa are up against the women of "The View" and the physicians of "The Doctors," as well as Rachael Ray and Dr. Mehmet Oz for Outstanding Talk Show Host.
Meanwhile, game show veteran hosts Pat Sajak ("Wheel of Fortune") and Alex Trebek ("Jeopardy!") will both receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences chairman Darryl Cohen said, "In honoring Pat and Alex, we're honoring not only two of the great game shows throughout the history of television, but two individuals whose talent and personality have given us an additional reason to tune in and watch."
