(AHN Entertainment) -- The new Sony Pictures animation The Pirates! Band of Misfits has just found its leading man. Hugh Grant has signed on to be the voice of the lead role in this 3D animated movie.

This will be Hugh Grant's first role in an animated film.

He will provide the voice of the Pirate Captain, a man who is passionate about being a pirate but not always triumphant in his endeavors. Other recognizable voices in this production will include Jeremy Piven and Salma Hayek.

Aardman Production is behind the making of this film, with Peter Lord, one of the founders of Aardman, serving as director.

The film is based on the books written by Gideon Defoe, author of the series and screenplay.

Director Peter Lord notes that Hugh Grant will be a great asset to the film. Lord says, "Only Hugh could anchor this story of love, loyalty, greed, and nautical high-jinks."

The Pirates! Band of Misfits sails into theaters March 30, 2012.
