Sylvester Stallone out of director's chair for "Expendables" sequel

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) -- While talk of a sequel to last year's action hit "Expendables" started as soon as it hit #1 during its opening weekend, Sylvester Stallone won't be getting behind the camera for the upcoming second installment.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Stallone, who starred, directed, and co-wrote the original "Expendables," is reportedly meeting with other directors to helm the sequel.

He also won't be contributing to the screenplay this time around, either. While he wrote the original with David Callaham, the script for the sequel was written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman (Kaufman wrote the Clint Eastwood-starring "Space Cowboys" and "Curious George.")

Instead, Stallone will next be seen (or heard) as the voice of Joe the Lion in the upcoming Kevin James comedy "Zookeeper."

Along with Stallone, "The Expendables" starred Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Steve Austin. It also featured cameos from Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenneger.

The film went on to gross over $100 million at the U.S. box office and $275 million worldwide. The sequel is aiming for a 2012 release.
