Standup Jake Johannsen To Star In Showtime's First Comedy Special Of 2010

Los Angeles, CA, USA (CNS) -- Showtime is kicking off the new year with hilarity.

The premium cable network is set to air the comedy special "I Love You" at 9:30 p.m. PT/ET on January 1, making it the first comedy special of 2010 for the entertainment conglomerate.

"I Love You" is a special featuring the talents of standup comedian Jake Johannsen. The comic, who refers to himself as "the king of weird stories," will entertain audiences as part of Showtime's Laugh Out Loud comedy platform.

During Johannsen's hour-long routine, he discusses the perils of growing up in "the hand sanitizer generation" and questions which method of sneezing is best. Topics such as taxes - from a traveling comedian's perspective - and marriage - the importance of "tapping out" during a couples fight - also play into his act.

The comedian is a long-time television mainstay. Besides appearing on "The Late Show with David Letterman" for a record 35 separate occasions, the Iowa native comic also headlined the 1991 special "This'll Take About an Hour," for which he received a Cable Ace Award nomination. The special was also listed as one of the 10 best television shows of the year by People Magazine and one of the "50 Funniest Moments of TV," as counted down by TV Guide.

Johannsen has also appeared in films such as the Kurt Vonnegut adaptation "Breakfast of Champions" with Bruce Willis and the Dorothy Parker biopic "Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle," starring Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Johannsen joins an elite group participating in the Laugh Out Loud programming block.

Showtime has aired numerous specials with Laugh Out Loud. Features include Mo'Nique's "I Coulda Been Your Cellmate," Dave Chapelle's "For What It's Worth," Sarah Silverman's "Jesus Is Magic," George Lopez's "Why You Crying?" and Mike Epps' "UnderratedÂ…. Never Faded & X-Rated."
