Study Finds Daily Sex Improves Men's Fertility By Producing Quality Sperm

Sydney, Australia -- Australian researchers say having sex daily improves male fertility even to those undergoing in vitro fertilization as frequent ejaculation produces new sperm with higher genetic quality without reducing sperm count.

The researchers from the Sydney IVF, a center for infertility treatment, found this out after testing 118 men with fertility problems. From the number, eight in 10 men who had sex daily for a week as part of the test produced sperm with less damaged DNA, Dr. David Greening of Sydney IVF told delegates at the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology conference held in Amsterdam on Monday, according to BBC.

Sperm count decreased from 180 million to 70 million, which is still normal and sperm became more active or motile, the study showed.

Apparently, infrequent ejaculation, especially of men who are told to abstain from sex to improve sperm count prior to in vitro fertilization, exposes sperm stored in the epididymis to heat and oxygen free radicals that damage their genes and prevent production of fresh sperm with higher genetic quality.
