Laredo, TX (AHN) -- A Texas state trooper has stumbled on more than four-and-a-half ton of packed marijuana hidden inside an abandoned school bus near the Mexican border.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on Tuesday said the 9,210 pounds of marijuana neatly packed in 560 bundles were found Saturday hidden under cardboard and in a secret ceiling compartment of the bus left near Laredo, on the side of U.S. 59 in Webb County.

The Texas DPS said the pot has an estimated street value of $3.9 million and the haul was the second largest seized by traffic enforcers since 1997.

The agency has asked the public for information about the identities of the owner of the marijuana cargo.
