|
Calgary, Alberta (AHN) -- A Mozambique migrant won a lawsuit he filed against the Western Canada Lottery Corporation for withholding his $17 million prize money in the Super 7 lottery drawn on Jan. 16. Seguro Ndabene, who moved to Canada in 1984 and currently lives in Airdrie, has actually won several times in Canada's lottery. In 2004 he won the $1 million jackpot, but it took him eight months to claim the money. His latest win, Ndabene's fifth victory in five years, was withheld by WCLC because a relative of the owner of the lottery kiosk in Alberta where Ndabene bought the ticket claimed the winning ticket was a group purchase. The WCLC probed the claim and turned over the $17 million for the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench to decide. The other claimant did not pursue his claim, which led Ndabene to seek the court to release the prize. The court ruled in his favor on Monday. Ndabene said he picked the winning numbers at random. Aside from the $17 million and his first $1 million prize, the migrant had previous won $100,000, $57,000 and $1 million in other draws.
