Guriceel, Somalia (AHN) -- A 112-year-old Somali man took his sixth wife when he married a 17-year-old girl.

Hundreds of guests attended the wedding in the central town of Guriceel, BBC News reported.

Ahmed Muhamed Dore, who claims he is 112 years old, married Safia Abdulleh in hopes of having more children. He already had 18 children from five wives.

Dore told the BBC that he had waited for Abdulleh, who is young enough to be his great-great granddaughter, to grow up before he proposed marriage.

Somali historians noted that the wedding was the first of its kind in Somali, one of the poorest countries in the word, in over a century.
