Florida Football Coach Meyer To Give A Scholarship To Student Who Can Outrun His Alligator

Gainesville, FL -- Florida football coach Urban Meyer went out searching for the fastest student on campus and if one of those finalists can beat one of his Gators in the 40-yard dash on Saturday then a full scholarship is waiting.

Approximately 225 students took Meyer up on the offer. The numbers have been whittled down to the fastest 15 finalists.

Two of the finalists covered 40 yards in 4.47seconds, another in 4.48 and one at 4.49.

They'll be divided into groups of five and have to square off against Gator speedsters Louis Murphy, Chris Rainey and Deonte Thompson.

Murphy runs a 4.25, Rainey a 4.33 and Thompson a 4.40.

The race will take place as part of Florida's spring game festivities. One lucky fan will also have his or her name pulled in a drawing to catch a pass from Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.

Thompson is predicting a blowout in the race.

He told the AP, "We should beat them by more than five yards. I think we will."
