Pembroke, Ontario -- Eastern Ontario Police confiscated more than 40,000 marijuana plants worth about $40 million in what is considered the largest dope bust in Canadian history. The marijuana plantation was discovered on a 99-plus acre farm in Laurentian Valley Township, which is outside Pembroke in Ontario. Police described the farm as an elaborate operation with even an irrigation system in place, according to Ontario police spokeswoman Sgt. Kristine Rae. To disguise the illegal plantation, the owners built an above-ground pool and pond that had plastic pipes distributed through the fields. The garage doubled as a drying rack. The marijuana plants were interspersed with corn crops. There was also sheep on the farm. Neighbors said they rarely saw people on the farm. Rae said there has been no arrest made yet, but the investigation is going on. Prior to the Thursday catch, the largest bust made by Canadian police was a raid on a brewery plant in Barrie, Ontario in 2003, which yielded 30,000 marijuana plants. The police released the report on the bust Monday. It confirmed all the 40,000 marijuana plants have been destroyed.
