London, England (AHN) -- A new survey reveals the medicine-buying capitals of Britain, with Britons in certain areas more prone to colds, tummy aches, and sore throats. According to a survey, more people in Boldon buy remedies for cold than anywhere else, making the old mining town near Newcastle the cold capital of Britain. Based on sales figures from supermarket chain Asda, nearly 10,000 packets of tablets or bottles of medicine were sold in Boldon in the first three months of this year. The figure suggests that northerners are more prone to catching cold, while, southerners living in Hemel Hempstead, Herts, barely showed signs of a sneeze with just 750 remedies sold in the same period. In terms of sore throat statistics, the survey revealed that Barnsley in Yorkshire emerged at the top of the league. Sales of soothers there hitt 14,959 while Asda's store in Kingston, in southwest London, sold only 1,120 throat remedies. The study showed that people in the town of Wakefield were most likely to have stomach upsets, with nearly 15,000 "cures" sold there, against just 932 in Pwllheli, North Wales. The survey also found an increasing number of southerners try herbal remedies such as Korean ginseng and ginkgo biloba, with sales in Eastleigh, Hants, 10 times more than in Liverpool.
