Bottoms Up: $100-A-Cup Coffee 'Tasted' First By Jungle Cats

London, U.K. (AHN) -- Coffee made from beans that have passed through the bowel of an Indonesian jungle cat is being sold by a department store here for $100 a cup.

The coffee, called Caffe Raro, is made from a blend of a rare Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, and another, Kupi Luwak, which is harvested from the droppings of civet cats.

According to the store, Peter Jones, the source of the coffee is of no concern, as customers have always shown a penchant for good quality and a unique experience, despite the price.

"The fact that the coffee includes a bean ingested by Indonesian civet cats gives them an experience they couldn't get anywhere else in the world," said Joe Teixeira, the store's head of catering, according to the UPI.

Made by De Longhi, an Italian company, Caffe Raro is said to be sought after by those in search of exquisite kinds of coffee.

"It is in high demand from coffee aficionados," said a De Longhi spokesperson. "They will relish the chance to buy such a rare coffee. After all, only 200 kg (440 pounds) of Kupi Luwak is produced each year."

According to the Daily Telegraph, the owner of De Longhi attested to the coffee's unique taste.

"It's strong but with no bitterness or aftertaste," said Giovanni Toffanno, who along with barista David Cooper brought the coffee to the city.

"We have roasted very small quantities very slowly to make sure the taste is not ruined," he continued. "It has a full body but is almost sweet, which is rare."

The coffee will be available until the end of April, and proceeds will be given to the Macmillan Cancer Support.
