Queensland, Australia (AHN) -- A local cattle rancher is reportedly investigating what he called "space junk": a chunk of metal, most likely a piece of a U.S. rocket, he found in his backyard. The rancher, James Stirton, found the black piece of metal at his place in Cheepie last year as he was checking his cattle. "I had no idea what it was," he said, as quoted by United Press International. "I know all about sheep and cattle but I don't know much about satellites or space stuff." Determined to get answers, Stirton asked for opinions from Australian and American aeronautics experts. Their replies weren't helpful, so Stirton turned to the expertise of Mark Rigby of the Brisbane Planetarium. Rigby identified the chunk of metal as a possible helium tank from a U.S. rocket. Stirton said that American experts from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the U.S. Aerospace Corporation responded to his inquiries merely to say that someone might be sent over to investigate the find. "I've had a few emails from them and they were going to let me know when they sort out what it is and where it came from," said Stirton, as quoted by ABC News. "But that was only last week, so I haven't heard back from them yet." Stirton said that the piece of metal weighed about 20 kilograms, "which is...half a bag of dog biscuits or whatever."
