Eugene, OR (AHN) -- A pretzel resembling the Virgin Mary was posted on the online auction site eBay, and bids for the item have surpassed the $1 million mark.

The pretzel, posted on the website by owner Michael Fleming, had received a bid of $10,950 Thursday afternoon, and was later on followed by a questionable $1.1 million by a first-time bidder.

The nearly $11,000 bid, however, was made by a person with bidding history on the website.

"People seemed generally moved by these images," said Fleming, who found the pretzel three years ago, inside a bag of Rold Gold. "And they really seem to believe that the Virgin Mary is before them.

According to the Oregonian, Fleming's post was given additional advertisement as a local DJ gave the item promotion on the radio show.

"We're kind of capitalizing on the stupidity of eBay and that people will buy anything," said Tanner Haney, who hosts "the Donkey Show" on KVAL.

Responding to comments saying that the auction was stupid, the sellers posted, "Welcome to the stupid auction, thank you for stopping by the stupid auction, you must enjoy spending your time on stupid things. We appreciate your stupid hit and your stupid bid, so send us your stupid money and we will send you the stupid pretzel."

According to Blorge.com, a replica of the pretzel is also available for purchase, tagged with a heavily discounted $5,000.
