Jet Bombs Scotland... Oops, Sorry!

Scotland, UK -- A Royal Air Force fighter jet on a routine flight has accidentally dropped a 14kg practice bomb on Scotland Monday.

The RAF said it has no idea whether the device survived the fall and have yet to locate the bomb. Nevertheless, it is warning the public against touching it.

While practice bombs are not live devices, they are made to look and feel like real bombs.

"Even if the practice bomb survived the fall, we would stress it is highly unlikely to represent a significant danger to the public," a spokesman for RAF Lossiemouth said.

"However, anyone who finds what they believe to be the bomb, which is approximately two and a half feet long and dark blue in colour, is advised to inform the police," the spokesman added.

The plane, a Tornado GR4 aircraft was on a routine flight from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, when he bomb accidentally fell during its 90 minute flight, around half of which was over the sea.

However, the overland part of the journey included a low-level route through Northumberland and north-east Scotland which makes the possibility of the bomb hitting a populated area probable.
