Falcon Eggs Moved From San Francisco Bridge

San Francisco, CA (AHN) -- Scientists removed three peregrine falcon eggs from beneath the Bay Bridge Friday. They were worried that once the eggs hatched, the chicks would fall onto the roadway or into the San Francisco Bay. The eggs were perched about 200 feet above the San Francisco Bay.

A digital monitor found that two of the eggs had heartbeats. They will be given to foster falcons until they are ready to be returned to the wild.

The parents of the eggs have been named George and Gracie by locals. They've become celebrities after nesting and raising chicks on the 33rd floor ledge of a skyscraper in downtown San Francisco where a web camera also allows bird watchers to keep up with the pair.

Scientists hope the birds will go back there, make another nest and lay more eggs. A web camera also allows bird watchers to keep up with the pair.
