Local British Council Bans Office Christmas Decorations

London, England -- The local council at Tower Hamlets in East London, England has ordered its staff not to put up Christmas decorations in the office to prevent injury.

The council also bans the use of festive lights because they are too costly on electric bills, it was reported.

Staff workers in the council were stunned of the decision and said they were not expecting the order.

One worker said, "We only wanted to get into the spirit and brighten the place up. It feels more like the Eastern Bloc than the East End round here now, except slightly less cheery."

But a spokeswoman for the council defended the decision and said, "There's a concern people might hurt themselves trying to attach hanging decorations from the ceiling.

"Christmas lights use a relatively small amount of electricity but every effort counts in reducing energy waste."
