Aussie Driver Threatens Police With Snake

-- An Australian driver armed himself with an unusual weapon after he was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving. The driver grabbed a live snake off the road when officers stopped him for an alcohol breath test.

Police in Darwin, home for poisonous snakes and voracious crocodiles, say the incident happened Saturday night, after the officers saw the motorist swerving.

A breath test registered his blood alcohol level at 0.131, well above the permitted legal limit.

As police questioned the man, he allegedly picked up a snake that was slithering along the roadside and pointed its head at the officers. Police told him to drop it but he took off into the scrub still clutching the snake.

The man was later captured and is to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on drunken driving charges and for driving an unregistered vehicle.
