Kim Jong-Il Gains Nukes, Could Loose Cognac Lobster, Caviar And McDonald's Hamburgers

Seoul, South Korea -- The eccentric Stalinist leader of N. Korea, Kim Jong-Il, loves his French spirits, lobster, caviar, McDonald's hamburgers, and choice cuts of imported sushi. His sons love the jet-set lifestyle.

While millions of his country's citizens have perished from famine and starvation, luxury goods, gathered at great expense, abound in Kim's compounds, and serve both personal and as currency for loyal elite supporters.

With a new U.N. security resolution awaiting a vote, which could, among other things, impose an embargo on luxury items to the nation, Kim may have to live without his cognac and Big Macs.

"In a country as impoverished as North Korea, luxury goods are a key currency that keep the elite happy and reward those who win the favor of its leaders," said one S. Korean politician who asked to remain anonymous.

Kim boasts the largest wine cellar in N. Korea, reported to accommodate up to 10,000 bottles of wine, which the leader has imported from France and other European nations.

Kim enjoys the finer things in life. His former personal chef, who goes by the Japanese pseudonym, Kenji Fujimoto, explains in his book that the leader enjoys lobster and caviar and has choice cuts of sushi flown in from Japan. Kenji was Kim's personal chef throughout the 1980s and 1990s a time, which saw the death of millions of N. Koreans due to famine

According to Kenji, Kim awards many of his closest followers with imported lingerie, pianos, and even the occasional Mercedes-Benz.

Should firm sanctions be imposed, the N. Korean leader may have to temper his tastes to products gathered from local industry, though his government has spent little of the nations fledgling coffers on improving the nation's infrastructure and production capacities.

He may gain nukes but perhaps at the expense of cognac.
