Woman Spends 30 Days In Kennel To Raise Money For Animal Shelter

-- An Indiana woman who spent nearly a month in a dog kennel to raise money for an animal shelter has emerged from her temporary home. Cheryl Walker, a volunteer at Marion-Grant County Humane Society, came out of the 4-by-7-foot kennel on Sunday after raising $8,162 to finance a new shelter.

The 42-year-old Walker says her stay at kennel was worth it since 110 animals were adopted or rescued from the shelter during her 30-day stay.

I'm so happy to be home," Walker told Chronicle-Tribune on Monday from her home. "But I so miss my kennelmates. I was crying when I left."

Walker moved into the shelter to raise awareness about adopting animals. She also wanted to draw attention to the kennel's need for funding a renovation.

Walker hopes that although she has come out of kennel, people will still continue to donate more - her goal is to raise $3 million.
