Train Conductor In Hot Water For Stopping Train And Having A Cigarette Break

Bucharest, Romania -- A Romanian train conductor is now in hot water and could face disciplinary action after he was found to have stopped his train so he could have a cigarette break.

A report by the newspaper Evenimentul Zilei, says the driver stopped the train in the middle of the country and encouraged some passengers to get off the train. The Romanian government has recently banned smoking on trains.

Ironically, the train driver was employed by Blue Arrow, dubbed as the country's fastest and most modern train.

The paper said the train had just passed the city of Timisoara when the driver announced, "Passengers may get off now, we'll take a five minutes cigarette break."

Adina-Nicoleta B, who was a passenger of the said train said, "I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the announcement about the cigarette break. We were not traveling by bus. It was supposed to be a fast train but it stopped in the middle of nowhere and people led by the driver went out to have a smoke."

When questioned, the engine driver said they were forced to stop the train because of technical problems.

However, they admitted the driver should not have let passengers off the train and he now faces disciplinary action.
