Brussels, Belgium -- A car thief in Belgium abandoned the car he stolen when he panicked after realizing a young boy was asleep in the back seat.
The driver and father of the boy told police in Brussels that he parked his car to withdraw cash from an automated teller machine and left his five-year old to sleep in the back seat.
However, an unidentified thief immediately jumped into the car and sped off with the boy still asleep.
The driver immediately called the police and also started calling local gas stations aware that his tank was almost empty of fuel.
He also told his story to a group of youngsters and one of them found the car a few hours later in nearby Oudergem.
The little boy was still fast asleep when the car was recovered.
Police believe the thief panicked and abandoned the car as soon as he noticed the snoozing child.
