-- Loveland has been known as a creative haven for its annual sculpture show. This year the event expects to take off amongst a debate over a large bronze sculpture that some residents of the city in the foothills of the Rocky Mountain say is too erotic, and inappropriate for a public art installation. One controversial sculpture titled "Triangle," was created by Kirsten Kokkin, 54, a Norwegian-born internationally acclaimed sculptor. "Triangle," approximately 14 feet tall and 9 feet wide, is a depiction of three nude figures - a man and a woman holding up another woman. The city paid over $67,000 for the work, "symbolizing unity and how we stay together to survive society." Kokkin, a professor of sculpture at the University of Oslo told the New York Times, "I tried to do something spiritual and uplifting." Although, not everyone is a fan of the work. Rev. Kevin Klug, the pastor of Abiding Love Lutheran Church told the New York Times: "It's more graphic than it needed to be, and inappropriate regardless of whether our church was going in there or not...If you put it on a public street - if that's the way you've got to go to take your kids to drop them off at the recreation park or if you're going to the high school or coming to our church - you don't have a choice as to whether you go by it or not." He also expressed concern about how he would explain the symbolism in the image to his 10 and 12-year-old children, should they request one. "Triangle" joins 280 other pieces of artwork in Loveland, including 102 sculptures in Benson Park. Six of the park's sculptures are nudes, and three is another nude sculpture downtown.
