San Francisco, Cal (AHN) -- Police arrested the ex-boyfriend Saturday of an off-duty police officer who was gunned down as she left a memorial service at a community center. The arrest of Quartus Lee Hinton, 28, for investigation of murder, followed a day-long manhunt in the San Francisco Bay Area, the AP reported. According to authorities, witnesses identified Hinton as the gunman who shot and killed officer Kaliah Harper, 28, after she attended a memorial service at the Fairfield Community Center on Friday. Police said Harper and the gunman had quarreled before the shooting. The memorial service was for brothers Demari Jermaine Hutchinson, 12, and Immanuel Kayne Hutchinson-Callison, 7, who were killed in a car crash earlier this month. Police believe the boys were related to Hinton. Harper was a four-year veteran of the Richmond, Calif., police force, where she served as a narcotics officer. It is unclear if Harper was armed at the time of the shooting. Authorities said Harper had dated Hinton for 6 months, but ended the relationship several weeks ago. Harper's mother, Beverly Moore, told the San Francisco Chronicle that she was stunned by the manner of her daughter's death. "She used to always tell me, 'Mama, I'm not gonna live a long life,' " said Moore." I thought it would be in the line of duty, not just a senseless act from a jilted lover."
