Long Beach, CA (AHN) -- A baby sitter's first day on the job turned into a frightening experience after she picked up the wrong boy from school. The woman picked up 5-year-old Angel Guerrero by mistake and took him to her house. Sgt. David Cannan said she did not know what the child she was supposed to care for looked like. Angel's grandmother came to the elementary school and was informed that someone else had picked him up. Police issued a missing child alert. His name and photo were shown on local television stations. The baby sitter did not realize she had picked up the wrong child until her employers said they did not recognize Angel. Cannan said, "The baby sitter said 'This is your son,' and the parents said, 'No, this is not our son."' The employers called police after seeing Angel's photo on television. School officials were not alarmed by the confusion because Angel willingly left with the baby sitter. The boy she was supposed to pick up waited at school for several hours. Staffers eventually called an uncle to pick him up. Cannan said, "There's a lesson here... What an opportunity to tell parents to talk to their kids, and communicate with their caregivers. This young child was full of trust, and he sees an older, caring adult and just walked off with that person."
