Alameda, CA (AHN) -- Kenneth Kahn, a professional joker, popularly known as "Kenny the Clown," is running for mayor of Alameda. The 41-year-old clown admits that even his sister won't vote for him.

Kahn says he is aware that he is "running a long-shot campaign for City Hall's top spot." However he readily admits he has never run for an elected position or ever sat on a public board.

"People ask me, 'Do we really want to elect a clown for mayor of the city?'" he said. "I say, 'That's an excellent question.'"

The AP quotes Kahn's mother, Barbara as saying that she is aware that her son doesn't have a chance.

Sylvia Kahn, a teacher, and sister of Kahn said her brother's candidacy is a "mockery of our system."

"I don't think it makes any sense, because, to me, running for mayor is not where you start as far as community involvement goes," she added.

Kahn reportedly graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and is facing Beverly Johnson and City Councilman Doug deHaan for office in November.
