Gurnee, IL (AHN) -- Six Flags Great America is offering visitors of its Halloween-themed FrightFest a chance to get out of waiting in long lines to get on rides. From October 7 through October 29, customers who eat a live Madagascar hissing cockroach get unlimited line-jumping privileges.

Those who eat the 2- to 3- inch roach still have to pay admission fees, but after the feat is accomplished, cockroach eaters, along with four other friends or family members, get to cut to the front of the lines.

Bill Mays, Lake County Health Department's community health director, tells the AP eating live roaches may put people at a higher risk for gastrointestinal illness and allergies, but park officials insist consuming the roaches is safe.

Those who don't want to eat live roaches may want to eat ones that are cooked. However, winners of the cooked roach-eating contest, held Friday, October 13, don't get to jump any lines.

Six Flags spokesman James Taylor says he's hoping somebody can beat the British man who currently holds the cockroach-eating world recorded - 36 roaches, recorded in the 2001 Guinness Book of World Records.

Taylor says, "I've heard people say, 'Wow,' 'Ew,' a lot of one-worders. A lot have said that they wouldn't eat a cockroach, but they sure would like to see someone else do it."
