Beijing, China (AHN) -- A Chinese woman was charged with transporting 15 items of underwear soaked in 3.5lbs. of heroin. The woman appeared in a Shanghai court Thursday and pleaded innocent, claiming the underwear was planted in her luggage after two men offered her a job and a plane ticket to Shanghai. Wang Zhiqin, 42, from Wuhan, capital of China's central province of Hubei, said in court that she had no idea her pink trunk contained panties and long johns that had been soaked in the drug. Wang's lawyer said police determined the amount of heroin Wang transported by weighing the wet underwear, and questioned whether this was a legitimate way of determining the amount of the drug she had on her. The paper quoted Wang's lawyer as saying, "There is no evidence of the exact purity and quantity of the heroin, and there is no evidence proving Wang was aware of what she was carrying." It continues by saying Wang was arrested after a tip-off and drug tests apparently detected heroin on the underwear. Wang could face the death penalty if she is convicted.
