London, England (AHN) -- A promiscuous breed of possums in Australia are forced to become monogamous due to a change in their habitats. Researcher Jenny Martin of the University of Melbourne says logging has destroyed some habitats and made female possums scare. Normally male possums could find multiple partners within a 6 acre area. In places that are logged, the area more than doubled, making females harder to find. Martin tells New Scientist magazine, "In the logged forests the males cut their losses and strongly pair with one female for life." Chris Johnson, an ecologist at James Cook University, says Martin's research proves human actions can force animals' natural behavior to change.
