New York, NY (AHN) -- Bankrupt Northwest Airlines distributes a booklet that advises employees to save money by digging through the trash for desirable items, or shopping in thrift stores. The struggling carrier has cut the wages of most of its employees and is seeking to trim more jobs as it attempts to exit bankruptcy. The tips were handed out to about 50 workers and posted on its employee Web Site. However, the section entitled "101 ways to save money," is not included in the latest versions of the four-page booklet or Web site. In another section, called "Preparing for a Financial Setback," Northwest suggests that workers can take "a date for a walk along the beach or in the woods." It also says they should not be "shy about pulling something you like out of the trash." Northwest spokesman Roman Blahoski says some employees were offended by the suggestions. He tells Reuters, "We agree that some of these suggestions and tips ... were a bit insensitive."
