Charleston, VA (AHN) -- A Kentucky man was sent to jail after he used a parking lot near police headquarters to respond to nature's call. The man was spotted by a trooper who just happened to be walking nearby.

As Michael Ray Hunter, 37, was relieving himself in the lot of West Virginia State Police headquarters in South Charleston, he was spotted by state trooper J.S. Crane.

As Crane approached, Hunter smelled alcohol. According to the AP, the discovery led Crane to the truck where Hunter's friend, James Alan Richardson, 40, was checking phone messages.

During a search of the pickup, Crane and another trooper found a marijuana pipe and pills for which Richardson had no prescription.

Both men were arrested for public intoxication. Hunter also is charged with indecent exposure while Richardson is charged with possessing controlled substances.
