Los Angeles, CA -- Dennis Haysbert is best known as President David Palmer on the Fox series "24" but his latest project brought him to new depths.

Haysbert is the host of "Secrets Of Pearl Harbor," a new documentary about the attacks on Dec. 7, 1941, and, as such, was required to spend two hours in a submarine examining a midget sub that was sunk when the Japanese first attacked.

It was a daunting task for Haysbert, who says he rarely spends that much time in such cramped quarters but admits he "couldn't allow myself to think about the claustrophobia."

But any fear felt by Haysbert pales in comparison to the emotional reaction he got seeing the sunken U.S. ships and subs which he says reminded him how he felt during the 9/11 attacks.

In addition, Haysbert says he felt outrage while filming the special especially after learning that the sub he explored was attacked 75 minutes before the U.S.S. Arizona because, as he puts it, "the military officials had plenty of time to mobilize but didn't" and, as a result, 1,177 soldiers died.

"Secrets Of Pearl Harbor" debuts Wednesday (Dec. 15) on the Discovery Channel.
