Piscataway, NJ -- Twelve men and one woman are trying to wrench the title of "America's Sexiest Plumber" into their own hands in a new competition.

According to a spokeswoman for the contest sponsor, American Standard toilets, one candidate has persuaded a friend who is a teacher to get her class to vote for him, while others are having friends and family campaign for them.

Some of the sexy plumbers whose headshots are up for vote at AmericanStandard-us.com include a John Ritter look-alike from Oregon who touts his "chiseled facial features" and a fourth-generation plumber from New Jersey who says his almond-shaped eyes make him sexy.

The winner of the contest gets a free trip to the Superbowl in February, but the runners-up won't be flushed down the drain: All of them will pose alongside new toilets in portraits that will appear in the 2005 America's Sexiest Plumbers Calendar.
