|
Alexandria, VA -- Here's another story for the "well-meaning boob" file: Do-gooders who are blanketing Iraq with care packages for fighting soldiers they've never met are slowing down the mail from the soldiers' loved ones. According to Army spokesman, Lt. Col. Kevin Arata, the glut of mail from care package campaigns "slows down the mailing system." That means soldier boys and girls can't get packages from their loved ones in a timely manner. Arata says the Army "loves the support from the public" but they're asking that people only send packages to soldiers they know personally. He says if Americans want to make a gesture, the military encourages folks to make donations to emergency relief funds or send phone cards because they are slim and don't take up much room.
