Nintendo Music Not A Game For Rock Band

Sacramento, CA -- Some people look at a Nintendo machine and see just video games but the members of a band called The Advantage see a whole set list of material.

The hard rock quartet performs nothing but music from video games like "Super Mario Bros."

Bass player Carson McWhirter says Nintendo compositions like the "Overworld Theme" from "Super Mario Bros. 2" are "really well-written" and he and his bandmates enjoy the challenge of making them "sound good on real instruments."

So far, the band is getting good reviews for its self-titled debut but McWhirter admits not everyone gets the concept. He says, "People always tell us we need a lead singer because they don't realize these songs were designed to be instrumental."

Playing Nintendo tunes has changed how the band spends its off hours, too. McWhirter says The Advantage has video games on its tour bus but has to avoid playing the ones with music that they play on stage every night.
