Tom Brokaw: Retiring But Not Tiring

New York, NY -- Newscaster Tom Brokaw is planning to retire as NBC's lead news anchor in a few weeks -- but even he admits that could change based on the course of world events.

Brokaw's last night is scheduled for Dec. 1, but he admits everything could change if an event of "great magnitude" -- like a 9/11-type attack -- occurs between now and then.

If that happens, it "has dawned" on the 64-year-old Brokaw that he might not be able to retire as expected, and he figures he'd have to work out a "dual role" with his replacement, NBC anchorman Brian Williams.

There's one thing he has planned -- his final words. Brokaw says he's been thinking about what to say on his last broadcast and promises it "won't be off the cuff."
