Break A Plate To Relieve Stress

Los Angeles, CA -- A stress-busting technique to deal with frustrating family members this holiday season may leave your china cabinet empty.

Psychologist Catherine Cardinal says smashing plates and glasses is good for releasing the tension brought on by family functions.

Cardinal often recommends the technique to patients with bottled-up anger who tell her it's the "most freeing" thing they've ever done.

Breaking plates may seem a bit taboo, but she says, "Breaking a taboo is something you need to do."

Cardinal says you can go to a discount store and buy cheap china, or "use the good stuff if it thrills you."

A glass-smashing party can also be done with a friend, but Cardinal warns folks not to do it around children.
