Los Angeles, CA -- Most rock historians concentrate their studies on real bands but one Los Angeles musicologist would rather list noteworthy fake bands. T. Mike Childs is the author of "Rocklopedia Fakebandica" (St. Martin's Press), a guide to bands that only exist on TV shows or movies. Childs says most people know about made-up bands like the Partridge Family or Spinal Tap, but he wants to shed light on the hundreds of others. For instance, "Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes," is the name of the Cantina band in "Star Wars." Childs says the group has also performed as "Bobbarine and the Wookiee Kotters." Then there's "Incarceration," a fake heavy metal band that appeared on "COPS" to attract hookers looking for customers. Finally, there's "Toad The Wet Sprocket," a fake British band created for a 1975 British TV show, "Rutland Weekend Television," that inspired the American rock group of the same name.
