English As A First Language

Dallas, TX -- Americans may have a lot to say, but they're saying it all wrong.

That's according to lexicographer, Bryan Garner, author of "Garner's Modern American Usage" (Oxford University Press).

He's come up with a list of the top ways Americans botch the English language.

Garner says he'd rather hear someone say, "John and me are going to the store," than, "Let's keep this between you and I," which he says sounds like someone is trying to cover up their ignorance of English.

Another of Garner's pet peeves is saying "hone in" when you mean "home in" as a homing pigeon does.

Finally, people who pronounce nuclear as "nuke-kuoo-lure" make Garner want to drop the bomb.
