Election Has Dire Consequences For 'SNL' Co-Stars

New York, NY -- The upcoming U.S. presidential election has important implications for the country -- but it will also impact "Saturday Night Live" cast members Will Forte and Seth Meyers.

Forte plays George W. Bush on the show, while Meyers handles the role of John Kerry and, depending on the election's outcome, either actor could be thrust into a four-year spotlight.

Playing a president on SNL increased the public profile of Phil Hartman and Will Farrell but Forte and Meyers claim the potential leap in fame isn't sparking any competition between them.

Forte says he's too busy working on the show with Meyers to think about his career prospects if Bush wins the election. Meyers, meanwhile, jokes that he's trying to lull Forte "into a false sense of security" while secretly planning for the next four years.

But even if Kerry does win and Meyers' celebrity rises, Forte won't be completely out of the loop. He's working on a John Edwards impression just in case.

Besides their "SNL" duties, Meyers and Forte will be co-hosting an NBC special on Nov. 1 that will focus on the show's 30-year history of presidential debate spoofs.
