Hazel Park, MI -- Everything is going to the extreme these days -- including pumpkin carving.

Pumpkin-head Tom Nardone has launched the website extremepumpkins.com to reclaim the art of the squash sculpture, which he thinks has become too tame.

Nardone began experimenting with new approaches to pumpkin pyrotechnics including using lighter fluid on crumpled paper to make flames shoot out of the pumpkin and placing road flares in jack-o-lanterns for high intensity illumination.

Nardone says he uses a jig-saw to cut his pumpkins. In his words, "If I can't carve it in 30 minutes, it's not worth it."

But he recognizes youngsters can't mess around with flames and saws, so he says one design kids can enjoy is pulling the jack-o-lantern's guts through its mouth to make it look like it's puking.

He says, "Kids understand throwing up."
