Los Angeles, CA -- You may not consider yourself bilingual, but you know more Spanish than you think you do. That's what songwriter Michelle Shocked has learned since she moved to Los Angeles a few years ago. The transplanted Texan lives in a hispanic neighborhood and has been writing a slew of songs based on Spanish words and phrases she picks up on the street and from billboards. It may sound a little loco, but Shocked says the practice lessons in "Spanglish" are opening up new ideas for songs she wouldn't have otherwise considered. Shocked is planning to put her new Spanglish songs on an upcoming CD, "Jams," due for release next year. In the meantime, she is returning to her Texas roots later this month when she rereleases her 1992 recording, "Arkansas Traveller." It features guest appearances by Alison Krauss, Pop Staples and the String Cheese Incident and, according to Shocked, "...sounds like "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" six years before that movie was made."
