Travel Experts Predict Airlines Will Put Heavy Price On Fat Passengers

New York, NY -- Airlines will soon be putting a heavy price on fat passengers, according to one travel trend expert.

Ira Matathia of Euro RSCG marketing says the growing trend of "globesity" is weighing heavy on the airline industry because increased weight on a jet means more fuel is needed to propel the plane.

Since one obese passenger with a full luggage allowance can weigh as much as two skinny travelers, Matathia predicts some airlines will soon start factoring in personal weight allowances, and charging chub tubs a heavier price to fly the friendly skies.

It's also possible some airlines might make plump passengers pay first class fares for a special coach seat that would be placed in a part of the plane where the extra weight distribution wouldn't be as significant.

But while some airlines are considering beefing up prices for fat passengers, Matathia says others will probably exploit the "globesity trend" by offering incentives like a 10-pound extra personal weight allowance or creating an airline catering to the jumbo jet-setters.
